Welcome

Welcome to the blog for www.FEMINIST-CULTURAL-ACTIVISM.net

This blog offers a very simple way for people coming to the carnival to chat beforehand.

If you wish, use the blog to introduce yourself before the carnival by adding a comment to the post 'INTRODUCTIONS'.

Or, if you are arriving in York early, arrange to meet up with others – York has many wonderful cafes and pubs. And if you are from York, perhaps you can advise visitors as to the best places to eat, drink and visit. Use the post 'VISITING'.

To offer or request links or to share accommodation, leave a comment in the 'SHARING' section.

Be safe - meet people in public places, and check out any sharing buddies beforehand.

The carnival team are looking forward to meeting everyone for what promises to be an exciting and thought-provoking event.

best wishes,

There are many independent cafes and restaurants in York. A vegan restaurant El Piano is in Grape Lane, and in Goodramgate there's a vegetarian cafe, Goji. Enjoy!

There are so many good food options in York! The two Joan mentioned are wonderful, but may I also suggest Happy Valley at 70 Goodramgate for Chinese food. And next door to Happy Valley is Bombay Spice. Both have really delicious food!

If you have time when you're in York check out the amazing David Hockney painting on loan from the Tate. It's on show at the centrally placed art gallery.

Hello locals!

I'm still dithering about booking my return train ticket from York, so I'm just popping in to ask if there's anything I should stick around for a bit longer on Sunday: any unmissable markets, events, lovely cafes for brunch, etc? Many thanks!

ha! well, no-one has answered speedily, and I think this is indicative of York being a sleepy Sunday city. However, Betty's Cafe and Cafe Concerto (easily googled) are great for sunday breakfast, and Melton's 2 for brunch. Minster is good for church, as a believer or tourist, and shopping in York's little streets is pleasant on a sunday afternoon. Trips on the river can also be good, and the Castle Museum is good. I think York *is* sleepy on a Sunday, but in a nice way! Ann (KN)

Aww, now I wish I hadn't had to book an early morning train - I have a weakness for Sunday lazy brunches, not to mention river trips. Thank you, I'll try to fit some of this in on other days!

Pizza Express by the river is also a congenial place to eat and across the road is the museum gardens with spectacular ruins and ice cream if the weather forecast turns out to be wrong.
